Airflow Engineering (SI) Ltd, known simply as ‘Airflow’, is a Christchurch based independent supplier of Heating, Ventilation and Air Movement products.

Airflow Engineering (SI) Ltd started its life as “Derek Thompson HEVAC Sales” in 1988, and grew into Airflow Engineering (SI) Ltd in 1992. 1st May 1994 Derek lost his fight to cancer, a huge blow to the family and business. Intrepidly taking over Airflow at this time Cherry (Derek's daughter) has owned, operated and established Airflow in the market place.

Airflow has always continued to expand with a wider range of product and services. 2000 saw the company adopt the brand name of ‘AIRFLO’, to highlight its move into a “one-stop” Heating and Ventilation wholesaler, and to brand a range of its own designs. 2001 Airflow invested in a flexible duct-manufacturing machine, proving to be a solid investment. 2001 again saw growth, with expansion into larger and higher profile premises in Carlyle Street, Sydenham. 2005 Airflow continued to grow with new and improved product lines, along with machinery to manufacture Airflo Grease Filters & Airflo Electric Duct Heaters. 2006 Airflow were appointed agents for the Carrier Allied Product range and FläktWoods Fan stockists. 2007 Airflow was appointed SI distributor for Aircon Flange. 2009 we started working with and promoting Xpelair, Alsynite & Ampleair products, again products where brand name speaks for itself. 2010 started with a team visit to ‘ARBS’ Heating & Ventilation trade show in Australia, meeting new suppliers, we introduce the Systemair Fans and Advantage Air Grilles & Air Regulators to our range. 2011 - a new year with a new website, and launch of a revamped catalogue to match.

February 22 2011, changed the lives of Cantabrians with a 6.3 earthquake. Our building in Sydenham was not in such good shape we managed to dust ourselves down and swiftly relocate to the outskirts of the city to get on with it all within a couple of days. Everyone is safe and well and thanks to some superhuman efforts we are now operating from new premises at 500A Wairakei Road, Burnside. A little further out of town but a lot less shaky! All essential operating requirements are in good order we retrieved all our machines and files, and are back to full strength. A big, heartfelt thank you to Metalcraft for providing us with our new home.

Airflow employs 6 staff, it is still family owned and operated, including 3rd generation, Alex, Derek’s eldest grandson, Kevin & Cherry’s son, joined the company as a junior in 2008.

Cherry & Kevin Browne: Cherry is the principle owner, managing Airflow for 17 years. Kevin has worked alongside Cherry for the last 9 years. Cherry manages the business, and is responsible for the technical sales and design of HVAC systems. Kevin manages the workshop manufacturing our ducting, filters and heaters.

Alex Browne & Max Griffiths: Alex (Cherry & Kevin’s son) has worked for Airflow for 4 years, he works in the office, you may have him answer your call, but normally he is out dropping off and picking up delivering our products. Max is new to Airflow having only been with us for 1 month, Max normally works with Kevin in the workshop, but can be found answering calls and helping where needed.

Tracey Thompson & Victoria Peden: Tracey also family (sister-in-law) has worked for Airflow for 12 years with a couple of breaks, Tracey works alongside Cherry managing the office and making sure it runs efficiently and looking after your orders. Victoria has worked for Airflow for 6 years, at present Victoria only works Wednesdays & Fridays, as she is enjoying being a new mum to gorgeous baby Julia.
